Girls Inc. Upper Canada

At Girls Inc. of Upper Canada, we know that exposing girls to ideas and asking them to engage their imagination are two very powerful ways to inspire and inform them. We chose our current booklist with a view to exposing girls to books and ideas that are different from many traditionally popular titles because they celebrate and highlight girls, differences, belonging, challenges, and victories in ways that we don't always see in popular media. We know that girls' minds and bodies are capable and strong and we want girls to see themselves represented in stories about girls and women working in STEM, challenging stereotypes, and breaking down barriers like the girls they will find in the pages of these books. Finally, our booklist encourages girls to stand up, speak out, be authentically themselves, and to not be trapped by keeping the peace or changing themselves to be liked. Girls inspire us every day and we hope that this booklist inspires girls to continue being strong, smart, and bold.
